Harriet Evans is a British novelist and former publishing editor whose fiction explores family histories and relationships across generations. She began her career in 1996 as a secretary at Heinemann, later moving to Penguin, and became fiction publisher at Headline in 2003, where she worked until 2009 before focusing on writing.
Evans’s debut novel, Going Home (2005), was followed by A Hopeless Romantic (2006), The Love of Her Life (2008) and I Remember You (2009). Subsequent titles include Love Always (2011), Happily Ever After, Not Without You (2013) and the four-part family saga A Place for Us (2014). She has continued to publish bestselling standalone novels noted for intricate plotting and time-shifted narratives, among them The Butterfly Summer (2016), The Wildflowers (2017), The Garden of Lost and Found (2019) and The Beloved Girls (2021).
Her later work consolidates a focus on hidden legacies and the consequences of long-kept secrets. The Stargazers (Headline, 2023) traces the fortunes of a family shaped by artistic ambition and social change. Evans is represented by Curtis Brown and her books are published in the UK and internationally by major houses.
Alongside her writing, Evans has appeared at literary events and runs reader and craft sessions, drawing on her editorial background to discuss structure, character and revision.
The Treasures, the opening novel in the Sevenstones trilogy, was published in September 2025.
