Harini Nagendra biography

Harini Nagendra is an author of historical crime fiction and non-fiction about cities, nature and sustainability. She is a Professor of Sustainability at Azim Premji University in Bangalore, India. Her non-fiction work includes Nature in the City: Bengaluru in the Past, Present and Future.

The Bangalore Detectives Club is Nagendra’s first fiction novel and the opening book in the Detective Kaveri mysteries. Constable published the novel in April 2022 as a 304-page crime and mystery title. Its central character, Kaveri, moves to Bangalore to marry doctor Ramu and becomes involved in a murder investigation after a party at the Century Club.

The Bangalore Detectives Club was published in paperback in the UK on 28 April 2022, with the ISBN 9781408715185. The book is described as crime and mystery, First World War fiction, historical fiction and India-related fiction. The story is set around Bangalore’s alleyways, social spaces and colonial-era tensions, and Kaveri uses maths, logic and private investigation to pursue the killer.

Nagendra received the 2013 Elinor Ostrom Senior Scholar award for research and practice on urban commons. She also received a 2007 Cozzarelli Prize with Elinor Ostrom from the Proceedings of the US National Academy of Sciences for research on sustainability. Murder Under a Red Moon, the second Bangalore Detectives Club novel, follows Kaveri Murthy as she investigates a murder during a blood moon eclipse.
