Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Hannah Lee is a British children’s author whose picture books are published by Faber & Faber. Her writing was Highly Commended in the 2017 FAB Prize, and My Hair was her debut picture book.
My Hair, illustrated by Allen Fatimaharan, was published by Faber & Faber in 2019. The picture book follows a child choosing a party hairstyle and introduces styles including dreadlocks, Bantu knots, high top fades, braids and cornrows.
The Rapping Princess, again illustrated by Allen Fatimaharan, was published by Faber in 2021. The picture book centres on Princess Shiloh, who cannot sing like the other princesses but can rap, and it is written as a rhyming fairy tale about discovering her own voice.
