Graham Salisbury is an American author known for his works of fiction for children and young adults. He grew up in Hawaii, which has influenced the settings and themes of many of his books. Salisbury’s writing often explores issues of identity, family, and cultural heritage, particularly within the context of the Pacific Islands during significant historical periods.
His debut novel, Blue Skin of the Sea, was published in 1992 and is set in Hawaii, reflecting his personal connection to the islands. Salisbury is also the author of Under the Blood-Red Sun, published in 1994, which tells the story of a Japanese-American boy living in Hawaii during the Second World War. This novel has received recognition for its portrayal of the Japanese-American experience during the war.
In addition to his novels, Salisbury has written short stories and contributed to anthologies. His books are published by Random House and have been included in educational reading lists. Salisbury’s work has been acknowledged with several awards, including the Scott O’Dell Award for Historical Fiction for Under the Blood-Red Sun in 1995.
