Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Gillian Hibbs is a children’s author and illustrator. She studied Illustration at University College Falmouth, works on a range of illustration projects, and has a particular interest in children’s illustration and hand lettering.
Her picture book Tilly’s Staycation was written and illustrated by Hibbs and published by Child’s Play on 1 July 2014. The book is a 32-page picture book for ages 3 to 7 about Tilly finding adventures close to home when she is not going away on holiday.
Errol’s Garden was written and illustrated by Hibbs and published as part of the Child’s Play Library. The story follows Errol, a young gardener without a proper garden, whose plan for an outdoor growing space brings together a diverse community, and the book became part of CLPE’s Corebooks selection.
Her later picture book Covered in Adventures centres on Sasha, whose old sweater carries stains, rips and wrinkles linked to adventures with friends and family. Covered in Adventures was published on 30 August 2021.
