Georgina Stevens biography

Georgina Stevens is a children’s author and sustainability writer whose work focuses on environmental issues. Before writing books for children, she spent more than 20 years working in sustainability, including corporate programmes, environmental campaigns and projects with non-governmental organisations.

Her picture book Finn the Fortunate Tiger Shark and his Fantastic Friends was published in 2018. It follows a tiger shark that becomes ill after eating plastic and is helped by his marine friends. The book also includes practical ideas for reducing plastic use. An audiobook edition is narrated by Jeremy Irons and features the Joss Stone song Oceans.

Stevens is also the author of Stella and the Seagull, illustrated by Izzy Burton and published by Oxford University Press in 2021. After a seagull becomes ill from eating plastic, Stella organises a beach clean and encourages people in her community to reduce their use of disposable plastic. The book has subsequently been published in several languages.

Her children’s nonfiction book Climate Action: The Future Is in Our Hands, illustrated by Katie Rewse and published by Little Tiger in 2021, examines the causes and effects of climate change, ways of reducing carbon footprints and examples of young people taking environmental action around the world. For every UK copy sold, Little Tiger pledged to fund the planting of a tree through the reforestation charity TreeSisters.
