Fred Fordham is a graphic novelist, adaptor and illustrator. He was born in 1985 and grew up in north London. Before working in comics and graphic novels, he worked as a traditional portrait painter and muralist. His published comics work appeared in France.
Fordham illustrated Philip Pullman’s The Adventures of John Blake: Mystery of the Ghost Ship, which David Fickling Books and Graphix brought to North American readers in June 2017 in full colour for readers aged 8–12. The story was also serialised in The Phoenix, a weekly children’s publication in the UK.
Fordham adapted and illustrated the graphic novel version of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, published by Penguin in connection with the 25 October 2018 feature presenting a chapter from the illustrated edition. He later adapted F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby: The Graphic Novel, with illustrations by Aya Morton and an introduction by Blake Hazard.
Fordham adapted and illustrated Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World: A Graphic Novel, published by Vintage Classics on 21 April 2022. The hardback is 240 pages and presents Huxley’s dystopian novel in graphic-novel form.
Fordham is also the adaptor of A Wizard of Earthsea: A Graphic Novel, based on Ursula K. Le Guin’s children’s fantasy novel. His forthcoming work includes adapting and illustrating Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library as a 288-page graphic novel scheduled for 6 October 2026.
