Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Frann Preston-Gannon is a British illustrator and author of children’s books. She studied illustration at Kingston University. Her debut picture book, The Journey Home, was published by Pavilion Children’s Books in 2012. The book was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2013.
Preston-Gannon was the first UK recipient of the Maurice Sendak Fellowship in 2011, which involved a residency with the American author and illustrator Maurice Sendak. She has illustrated and written numerous picture books, including How to Lose a Lemur (2013), Sloth Slept On (2014), and In the Swamp by the Light of the Moon (2019). Her work has been published by several major publishers, including Pavilion Books, Templar Publishing, and Nosy Crow.
She has also illustrated books for other authors, such as I Am the Seed That Grew the Tree, an anthology of nature poems selected by Fiona Waters, published by Nosy Crow in 2018. This anthology won the Waterstones Children’s Gift of the Year in 2018 and was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2019.
In 2022, Preston-Gannon illustrated Sing Me a Story: The Music and Lyrics of Pete Seeger, written by Pete Seeger and published by Simon & Schuster. Her books have been translated into multiple languages and are available internationally. In 2023, she was announced as the UK illustrator for the World Book Day £1 book, Billy’s Bravery, written by Tom Percival.

Little Lim and the Golden Treasure is a lovely book to hold and a pleasure to read. With just 92 pages and short chapter, the illustrations are just right, and the story is ideal for younger readers to enjoy.
