Frank Herbert was an American science fiction author. He worked as a journalist and photographer before turning to fiction.
Herbert is best known for his novel Dune (1965), set in a desert world of political intrigue, ecology and religion. Dune won the Hugo Award and the inaugural Nebula Award for Best Novel, and it launched a series that includes Dune Messiah (1969), Children of Dune (1976) and later sequels. The Dune saga became one of the most influential works in modern science fiction.
Dune won the Hugo Award in 1966 and the Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1965.
