Francesca Simon is an American-born author best known for her children’s book series Horrid Henry. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and grew up in California. Simon attended Yale University, where she studied medieval history and literature. She later pursued graduate studies at Oxford University.
Simon began her career as a journalist, writing for publications such as The Sunday Times, The Guardian, and The Daily Telegraph. Her transition to writing children’s books was marked by the publication of the first Horrid Henry book in 1994. The series, illustrated by Tony Ross, has become immensely popular, with over 25 million copies sold worldwide and translations into multiple languages.
In addition to the Horrid Henry series, Simon has written other children’s books, including The Topsy-Turvies, Don’t Cook Cinderella, and Hack and Whack. Her work often features humour and relatable characters, appealing to young readers.
Simon has received several accolades for her contributions to children’s literature. In 2008, she won the Galaxy British Book Award for Children’s Book of the Year for Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman. The Horrid Henry series has also been adapted into a successful television series and a feature film.
