Children’s book news for April 2026: Michael Rosen wins the Hans Christian Andersen Award, CLiPPA and UKLA shortlists arrive, and Puffin launches its new picture book list, Puffin Studio.

Frances Cony was an illustrator whose work appears in children’s publishing and related children’s media projects.
She produced the original illustrations created for Rik Mayall’s 1985 Jackanory performance of Roald Dahl’s George’s Marvellous Medicine. The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre has displayed these illustrations as part of its Jackanory material connected to the story.
Cony is credited as illustrator on a range of children’s books, including novelty formats. On Goodreads, she is listed for titles such as Chicken Pox!: A Touch-and-Feel Pull-Tab Book (published 1993) and Zebra Jokes: Lift a Flap (published 1996).
She illustrated Shen Roddie’s touch-and-feel pull-tab pop-up book Help, Mama, Help!, published in hardback on 10 April 2006.
