Finbar Hawkins is a British author known for his work in children’s and young adult fiction. He studied English at the University of Exeter and later completed an MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University. Hawkins has worked in the television industry, including roles as a creative director at Aardman Animations.
His debut novel, Witch, was published by Zephyr, an imprint of Head of Zeus, in 2020. The book is set in seventeenth-century England and follows the story of a young girl seeking revenge after her mother is killed in a witch hunt. Witch was shortlisted for the Branford Boase Award in 2021 and was also nominated for the Carnegie Medal.
Hawkins published his second novel, Stone, with Zephyr in 2022. Stone explores themes of grief and family through the story of a boy who discovers a mysterious stone after the death of his mother.
His work has been recognised for its historical settings and exploration of complex themes. In 2021, Witch was selected as one of the Times Children’s Books of the Year.
Finbar Hawkins continues to write fiction for young readers. His most recent novel, Stone, was published in 2022.
