Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Farah Rahman is a British young adult author who studied English at the University of Sussex and Goldsmiths College. Her debut novel, Himalayan Blue, won the YA category of independent children’s publisher Firehorse Books’ 2026 New Novel Competition.
Before securing publication, Himalayan Blue was runner-up for the 2024 Future Worlds Prize for writers of speculative fiction and was shortlisted for the 2025 FAB Prize for children’s writing. The science-fiction novel follows teenage protagonists attempting to escape off-world colonial powers and restore the natural balance of their world. Snow leopards and psychic abilities also feature in the story.
Firehorse Books will publish Himalayan Blue in paperback and ebook editions in February 2027.
