Esther Coombs writes and illustrates practical non-fiction books for children. Her work includes Plant, Sow, Make, & Grow: Mud-tastic Activities For Budding Gardeners, a 48-page children’s gardening book published on 1 August 2019. The book is organised around the cycle of the seasons and gives children activities about sowing seeds, growing plants, harvesting, wildlife, recycling materials for gardening accessories, and decorative craft projects.
Coombs has also illustrated children’s cookery books. Kids Can Bake: Recipes for budding bakers is a 64-page hardback published on 5 October 2021, with more than 30 step-by-step recipes for cakes, biscuits, pies, puddings and tarts. The book is aimed at children aged 6 and above with adult assistance and includes vegan and gluten-free variations.
Her cookery illustration work also includes Kids Can Cook Vegetarian: Meat-free recipes for budding chefs. That title contains more than 30 vegetarian recipes and is presented as the third book in the Kids Can series, covering burgers, salads, frittatas, stir fries, soups and pies.
