Eric Fan and Terry Fan are Canadian authors and illustrators known for their collaborative work in children’s literature. Both brothers studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, where they developed their distinctive artistic style. Their debut picture book, The Night Gardener, was published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers in 2016. The book received critical recognition and established the Fan Brothers as notable figures in contemporary picture books.
Following their debut, Eric and Terry Fan continued to work together on several projects. Their subsequent titles include Ocean Meets Sky (2018) and The Barnabus Project (2020), both published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. The Barnabus Project was created in collaboration with their younger brother, Devin Fan.
In addition to their joint projects, the Fan Brothers have contributed illustrations to works by other authors. Notably, they illustrated The Antlered Ship by Dashka Slater, published in 2017, and The Scarecrow by Beth Ferry, published in 2019.
Their work is characterised by detailed, imaginative illustrations and a blend of fantastical and realistic elements. The Fan Brothers’ books have been published in multiple countries and have received recognition from various literary organisations. In 2021, The Barnabus Project was awarded the Governor General’s Literary Award for Young People’s Literature – Illustrated Books.
