Em Lynas writes children’s books, including funny picture books, and her stated interests as a writer include silly poetry and nonsense rhymes. Before becoming an author, she worked as a primary school teacher and as an educational publisher.
Her Witch School fiction includes You Can’t Make Me Go To Witch School, illustrated by Jamie Littler and published by Nosy Crow in 2017. The book is aimed at readers aged 8+ and follows Daisy Wart at Toadspit Towers boarding school for witches.
You Can’t Make Me Go To Witch School has classroom material for Years 3–4, suitable for children aged 7–9, with a literacy focus and links to other areas of the curriculum. The resource is structured to provide at least five hour-long KS2 lessons.
Her picture books with illustrator Matt Hunt include The Cat and the Rat and the Hat, a 32-page picture book published by Nosy Crow on 21 September 2021. The book uses rhyming text in a story about a cat, a rat, a bat, a hat and a cravat.
Her later picture books include The Goat and the Stoat and the Boat and The Bear and the Hare and the Fair, both illustrated by Matt Hunt. The Goat and the Stoat and the Boat was shortlisted for the 2025 Laugh Out Loud Award.
