Dianne Bates is the author of fiction for young readers and young adults, with works that include Crossing the Line, The Last Refuge, Nobody’s Boy, Daisy’s Bedtime and the Grandma Cadbury books. Her Grandma Cadbury series comprises Grandma Cadbury’s Trucking Tales, Grandma Cadbury’s Safari Tours and Grandma Cadbury’s Bikie Gang.
Grandma Cadbury’s Trucking Tales, illustrated by Kevin Burgemeestre, was published in 1987. Grandma Cadbury’s Safari Tours followed in 1992 and continues the adventures of Cadbury and his grandmother as they conduct safari tours around Australia.
Crossing the Line was published on 15 October 2008. The novel follows Sophie, a teenager who has been orphaned, abandoned by long-term foster carers and admitted to an adolescent hospital ward after concerns about her depression.
The Girl in the Basement was published on 23 May 2013. The novel is a young adult thriller about Libby, a teenager abducted and held prisoner in a basement, and it also introduces a kidnapped boy who becomes part of the captor’s plan.
