Dianne Bates is an Australian author of books for children and young adults. A former teacher and journalist, she has written more than 130 titles across fiction, non-fiction and poetry for younger readers.
Her works include novels such as Grandma Cadbury’s Water World, The Shape, Crossing the Line and Running with the Horses. She has also published non-fiction, including Our Country: Ancient Wonders, which introduces Australian landscapes and cultural heritage to children. Bates has contributed to anthologies and educational resources widely used in schools.
In recognition of her contribution to children’s literature in Australia, she received the Lady Cutler Award from the Children’s Book Council of Australia (NSW Branch) in 2006.
