Danna Smith is a poet and author of more than twenty-five children’s books, working primarily in picture book formats.
She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and spent her childhood surrounded by many creatures, as her father trained and rehabilitated wildlife such as hawks and bobcats.
Smith has published across fiction and nonfiction, including titles such as The Hawk of the Castle: A Story of Medieval Falconry, which received starred reviews and was selected as a Junior Library Guild pick and a Bank Street College Best Children’s Book.
Her works also include Rooftop Garden, Wake Up, Freight Train!, and several Little Golden Books.
Smith is represented by Tracy Marchini of BookEnds Literary Agency.
Her biography appears on publishing sites such as Penguin Random House, noting she lives in Northern California.
A recent accolade: The Hawk of the Castle was selected as a Bank Street College Best Children’s Book.
