Clare Furniss biography

Clare Furniss is a British author known for her contemporary fiction for young adults. She studied at Cambridge University and later completed an MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University. Furniss’s debut novel, The Year of the Rat, was published by Simon & Schuster in 2014. The book explores themes of grief and family relationships and has been recognised for its sensitive portrayal of loss.

Following her debut, Furniss published How Not to Disappear in 2016, also with Simon & Schuster. This novel addresses issues of identity, family secrets, and intergenerational relationships, following a teenager who embarks on a road trip with her great-aunt. Furniss’s writing is noted for its focus on complex emotional experiences and realistic characters.

Her subsequent works include All the Things We Never Said, published by Simon & Schuster in 2019. This novel continues her exploration of family dynamics and personal growth, centring on a teenager navigating the aftermath of her mother’s death.

Clare Furniss’s debut novel, The Year of the Rat, was shortlisted for the Branford Boase Award in 2015.
