Christina Lamb biography

Christina Lamb OBE is a British foreign correspondent and author whose books focus on war, politics and life in conflict zones. In 1988 she won Young Journalist of the Year in the British Press Awards for her coverage of the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. After spending 1989 reporting on political turmoil in Pakistan, she wrote Waiting for Allah: Pakistan’s Struggle for Democracy, published on 7 April 1991. Her later books include The Sewing Circles of Herat: My Afghan Years, published on 1 January 2002, and Farewell Kabul: From Afghanistan to a More Dangerous World, published on 1 October 2010.

Lamb co-wrote I am Malala: The Story of the Girl Who Stood Up for Education and was Shot by the Taliban with Malala Yousafzai in 2012, and she later wrote The Girl from Aleppo: Nujeen’s Escape from War to Freedom with Nujeen Mustafa. She has been named Foreign Correspondent of the Year five times in the British Press Awards and What the Papers Say Awards. Her reporting has also won the Foreign Press Association award for work on Zimbabwean teachers forced into prostitution and an Amnesty International award for reporting on street children in Rio. In 2007 she won the Prix Bayeux Calvados for her reporting from Afghanistan.
