Chris Naylor-Ballesteros is a British author and illustrator of children’s books. He began his career as a graphic designer before moving into illustration and writing. His debut picture book, I’m Going to Eat This Ant, was published by Bloomsbury in 2016. He is also the creator of The Suitcase, published by Nosy Crow in 2019, which has been translated into multiple languages.
Naylor-Ballesteros has illustrated and written several other picture books, including Frank and Bert (Nosy Crow, 2022), The Lonely Christmas Tree (Bloomsbury, 2019), and Out of Nowhere (Nosy Crow, 2021). His work has been shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal and the Klaus Flugge Prize. The Suitcase was shortlisted for the 2020 CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal and the 2020 Teach Primary Book Awards.
He has collaborated with other authors as an illustrator, including illustrating SuperJoe Does NOT Do Cuddles by Michael Catchpool (Lantana, 2021). Naylor-Ballesteros’s books are published in the UK and internationally. The Suitcase was selected for EmpathyLab’s 2020 Read for Empathy collection.
In 2022, Frank and Bert was published by Nosy Crow, adding to his portfolio of picture books for young readers.
