Benji Davies is a British author and illustrator known for his work in children’s picture books. He studied animation at university and has worked as an animation director in addition to his publishing career. Davies is the creator of the award-winning picture book The Storm Whale, published by Simon & Schuster in 2013. The book received the inaugural Oscar’s Book Prize in 2014 and was shortlisted for the Booktrust Best Book Awards.
Davies has also written and illustrated Grandad’s Island, published in 2015, which won the 2016 Children’s Book Award. His other works include The Storm Whale in Winter (2016), Grandma Bird (2018), and Tad (2020). In addition to his own stories, Davies has illustrated books for other authors, including the Bizzy Bear series by Nosy Crow.
His books have been translated into multiple languages and are published internationally. Davies’s illustrations and stories have received recognition from several literary organisations, including the Association of Illustrators and the World Illustration Awards. In 2020, Tad was shortlisted for the Oscar’s Book Prize. His work continues to be published by major UK publishers such as Simon & Schuster and Nosy Crow.
