Ayaan Mohamud biography
Ayaan Mohamud is a British Somali author and former medical student based in London. She began writing during lockdown and while participating in NaNoWriMo, turning her debut manuscript into a published novel.
Her first YA novel, You Think You Know Me, was published by Usborne in February 2023. The story follows Hanan, a Muslim-Somali teenager in London, navigating faith, identity, and Islamophobia within her school community.
In July 2024, Mohamud’s second YA novel, The Thread That Connects Us, was released by Usborne. This novel explores the complex bond between two girls as their fathers’ past decisions come to light.
You Think You Know Me was shortlisted for the 2024 Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in the Older Fiction category. The Thread That Connects Us was longlisted for both the Jhalak Children’s & YA Prize and the Hampshire Book Award in 2025.
