Anthony Horowitz is a British author and screenwriter known for his work in children’s and young adult fiction, as well as for his contributions to television drama. He attended Orley Farm School and later Rugby School. Horowitz is the creator of the Alex Rider series, which began with the publication of Stormbreaker in 2000. The series follows a teenage spy and has sold millions of copies worldwide, with translations into numerous languages. Several titles in the Alex Rider series have appeared on bestseller lists and have been shortlisted for various awards.
In addition to his books for young readers, Horowitz has written extensively for television. He created and wrote episodes for the long-running ITV crime series Midsomer Murders and the detective drama Foyle’s War. His work for television also includes adaptations of Agatha Christie’s novels.
Horowitz’s bibliography includes the Power of Five series and the Diamond Brothers mysteries. He has also written official continuation novels for the Sherlock Holmes and James Bond franchises. His books have received awards including the Red House Children’s Book Award and the Lancashire Book of the Year. In 2014, he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to literature.
The adaptation of Alex Rider into a feature film was released in 2006, and the series was later developed as a television drama. Horowitz’s writing for young readers continues to be recognised in literary circles and educational settings.
