Annet Schaap is a Dutch author and illustrator, known for her contributions to children’s literature. She was born in Ochten, Netherlands. Schaap studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, where she honed her skills in illustration.
Schaap has illustrated numerous children’s books, collaborating with various authors. Her work is characterised by its expressive and detailed style, which has garnered attention in the Netherlands and beyond. In addition to her illustration work, Schaap has also written her own books.
Her debut novel, Lampje, was published in 2017. The book, which tells the story of a lighthouse keeper’s daughter, received critical acclaim and won several prestigious awards. These include the Gouden Griffel, the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs, and the Nienke van Hichtum-prijs. Lampje has been translated into multiple languages, expanding Schaap’s reach to an international audience.
In 2019, Lampje was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal, further cementing her reputation as a distinguished author.
