Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Anna Mac is an author and illustrator working in picture books and design-led illustration. Her website lists projects including What Wonder are You?, Tig and Lil, The Imagined Book Covers, Birds of the Air, The Littlest Caw-Daw and The Hen in the Holly Bush.
Before focusing on illustration, Mac worked as a children’s social worker. She later studied printmaking, then created design-led illustrations for the retail market under the brand Coppertop Croft. Her work has included licensed design collections and client work with heritage retailers and VisitScotland.
Mac’s practice combines printmaking techniques, collage and digital processes. She also writes, and her portfolio includes picture-book material, book-cover work and design projects.
In 2026, Anna Mac was shortlisted for the Kelpies Prize for Illustration, alongside Flora Luckman, Aneta Lukianska, Susan Mitchell and Jenni Sheward.
