Andy Smith, who publishes as Andrew Smith, is an American author of young adult fiction. His novels include Ghost Medicine (2008), In the Path of Falling Objects (2009), The Marbury Lens (2010), Stick (2011), Winger (2013) and its sequel Stand-Off (2015), 100 Sideways Miles (2014), The Alex Crow (2015), Grasshopper Jungle (2014), Rabbit & Robot (2018) and Exile from Eden (2019).
Winger introduced Ryan Dean West, a younger student at a US boarding school navigating friendship, rugby and first love; the sequel Stand-Off continued his story. Grasshopper Jungle, published by Penguin in the US and by Electric Monkey in the UK, blends coming-of-age themes with speculative fiction. Exile from Eden is its sequel. Across his bibliography, Smith’s work ranges from realist contemporary narratives to speculative and dystopian stories for teen readers.
Smith’s books have been released by major publishers including Simon & Schuster and Penguin. His work has also appeared on recommended and prize lists used by librarians and educators in the UK and the US.
Grasshopper Jungle received the Boston Globe–Horn Book Award (2014) and a Michael L. Printz Honor (2015).
