Alastair Chisholm biography

Alastair Chisholm is a Scottish children’s author whose books include picture books, chapter books and middle-grade science fiction. His published work includes Orion Lost, Adam-2, I Am Wolf, Reek, The Consequence Girl and the Dragon Storm series.

His first picture book, The Prince and the Witch and the Thief and the Bears, illustrated by Jez Tuya, was published by Walker Books in 2018. It was shortlisted for the Scottish Book Trust Bookbug Picture Book Prize and included in Bookbug bags for Primary 1 children in Scotland.

Chisholm’s first novel, Orion Lost, was published by Nosy Crow in 2020. The science-fiction adventure follows children on a damaged starliner after the adults on board are left unable to help. The book was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize.

Inch and Grub, illustrated by David Roberts, won the Queen’s Knickers Award and the Scottish Book Trust Bookbug Picture Book Prize. Chisholm has also written puzzle books for children and adults, including sudoku and kakuro titles.

Reek, illustrated by George Caltsoudas and published by Barrington Stoke, won the UKLA Book Award 2026 in the 7 to 10+ category.
