Alexandra Sheppard is a British author of children’s and young adult fiction. She is best known for her middle-grade novel Alyssa and the Spell Garden, published in April 2024 by Faber & Faber. The story follows 11-year-old Alyssa, who discovers her magical heritage while spending the summer with her estranged family in North London. The novel explores themes of community, identity, and the impact of gentrification, set against the backdrop of a magical garden rooted in the Windrush Generation’s history.
Sheppard’s debut young adult novel, Oh My Gods, was published in 2019 by Scholastic. The book blends contemporary teen fiction with Greek mythology, following a half-mortal teenager navigating family dynamics and identity. Sheppard’s second YA novel, Friendship Never Ends, was published in May 2023 by Knights Of and was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2024.
In addition to her solo work, Sheppard co-authored Fly High Crew and The Day We Saved The Future with the Banjo Brothers, and contributed to the anthology Happy Here, showcasing stories from Black British authors and illustrators.
Sheppard is also a freelance social media strategist. She has been involved in literary events and school visits, where she engages with young readers through interactive workshops and talks. Her work has been recognised for its contributions to children’s literature, particularly in representing diverse voices and experiences.
In 2024, Alexandra Sheppard was shortlisted for the Romantic Novelists’ Association’s New Writers’ Award, recognising her impact as an author within her genre.
