Children’s book news for April 2026: Michael Rosen wins the Hans Christian Andersen Award, CLiPPA and UKLA shortlists arrive, and Puffin launches its new picture book list, Puffin Studio.
Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Alexandra Strick (often credited as Alex Strick) is a British children’s author, consultant and reviewer. She has worked in children’s books, including managing the Bookstart programme, and has written books for younger readers.
Strick co-wrote the picture book Max the Champion with Sean Stockdale, illustrated by Ros Asquith, published by Frances Lincoln Children’s Books in 2014.
She co-authored You Can! with Steve Antony, published by Otter-Barry Books in 2021, and later followed it with We Can! (also with Steve Antony), published in 2024.
Strick’s board book Let’s Play, illustrated by Annie Kubler and Sarah Dellow and published by Child’s Play, won the Inclusive Books for Children Awards 2026 Baby and Toddler prize.
