Alex Cotter is a British author of middle-grade fiction. She studied English at the University of Essex and has worked in bookselling at W. H. Smith, publicity for the Booker Prize, and in copywriting and teaching creative writing.
Cotter’s debut novel, The House on the Edge, was published by Nosy Crow in 2021. Her second middle-grade novel, The Mermaid Call, was published in 2022 and features themes of myth, friendship and self-identity.
She also works as a lecturer in creative writing and participates in school visits and literary events. Cotter often incorporates myth and folklore inspired by locations such as the Lake District and Derbyshire into her storytelling.
The House on the Edge and The Mermaid Call have received praise for their exploration of family, secrets, and female friendship.
