Alex Cotter is a children’s author who has worked with words across bookselling, literary publicity, copywriting and creative writing teaching. Her books for readers aged 9–12 include The House on the Edge, The Mermaid Call and Ice Dancer.
The House on the Edge was published on 1 July 2021. It is a middle-grade mystery thriller about Faith, whose family home stands on a crumbling cliff edge as she searches for answers about her missing father and brother.
The House on the Edge was selected for the 2022 Read for Empathy Collection. The selection connected the book with themes including family dynamics, relationships and emotional intelligence.
The Mermaid Call was published on 7 July 2022. It is a 9–12 story of myth and mystery in which Vivien joins Alice in a search for the mermaid of a lake, uncovering danger as the legend unravels.
Ice Dancer was published on 9 October 2025. It is a 9–12 adventure about Dina, who pursues skating in secret while staying with her aunt in Sheffield and caring about the welfare of her younger brothers.
