Alex Bell is a British author known for her work in children’s and young adult fiction. She studied law at university but decided to pursue a career in writing. Bell’s debut novel, The Ninth Circle, was published in 2008 by Gollancz, marking her entry into the literary world.
She gained recognition in the children’s literature genre with her Frozen Charlotte series, which began with the publication of Frozen Charlotte in 2015. This book was published by Stripes Publishing and became part of the Red Eye horror series. The success of Frozen Charlotte led to a prequel, Charlotte Says, released in 2017.
In addition to her horror novels, Bell has written the The Polar Bear Explorers’ Club series, which includes titles such as The Polar Bear Explorers’ Club (2017), The Longest Night of Charlie Noon (2019), and The Ocean Squid Explorers’ Club (2020). These books, published by Faber & Faber, are known for their adventurous themes and imaginative settings.
Bell’s work has been well-received, and she continues to contribute to the field of children’s literature with her engaging storytelling and diverse range of genres. Her books have been translated into multiple languages, reaching a wide audience of young readers. In 2016, Frozen Charlotte was shortlisted for the Redbridge Children’s Book Award, highlighting her impact in the genre.
