Our review:

Pansies and poppies, bluebells and borage, thyme and tulips, and from seedlings to seasons. This charming exploration of what makes something or someone strong has a very kind, empathic, at-one-with-nature feel. Bean has a wise grandmother who she goes to for advice about being strong.

The relationship is gentle and caring as they consider heroes, being tough, being hurt, being brave and standing up for things. Aimed at younger children, there is depth in some of the pages, maybe sowing seeds for the reader, inspiring positive morals and beliefs that can help build confidence and resilience in later years. Mature ideas are gently touched upon, such as stillness and being quiet can be powerful.

I Am Strong Just Being Me encourages life skills about dealing with failure, asking for help, courage and forgiveness. There’s something about the simple statements that resonate with a positive affirmation feel, backed up by beautifully illustrated scenes of nature and flowers that make this a relaxing, thought-provoking story, which, when told regularly, could enhance a child’s mindset.

On the inside covers of the book is a lovely additional spread of flowers and plants with their names and what they represent. This could be an added bit of fun to teach youngsters some of the plants they might see out and about.
