Playscripts

Playscripts for children and teens

Why should kids read playscripts? For starters, they’re a backstage pass to understanding the plot and characters in a whole new way. By diving into the dialogue and stage directions, kids can explore emotions, challenges, and motivations – and maybe even see the world from someone else’s shoes (hello, empathy!). Playscripts also encourage them to think critically, breaking down the story like a detective piecing together clues. Plus, they’re brilliant for performance prep, helping young actors master their lines and bring the story to life. Think of playscripts as part story, part puzzle, and a whole lot of fun! This list features books by Julia Donaldson, Roald Dahl, Louie Stowell, Alan Ayckbourn, Sarah Walden, Ted Hughes, Jacqueline Wilson, Michael Morpurgo, David Grant, Malorie Blackman, Zizou Corder, Piers Torday and Evan Placey.
