Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Xena Knox is a UK young adult author. Her debut novel, Sh!t Bag, was published by Hodder Children’s Books, an imprint of Hachette Children’s Group, on 22 June 2023 (ISBN 9781444972054). The story follows sixteen-year-old Freya after emergency surgery leaves her with a temporary ileostomy and examines how she manages school, friendships and self-image. Sh!t Bag was selected for the 2025 IBBY Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities collection.
Her second YA novel, Buzz Club, was published by Hodder Children’s Books on 30 January 2025 (ISBN 9781444972085). Described by the publisher as a contemporary novel about female empowerment and finding confidence, it focuses on three friends who start a confidential discussion club to talk frankly about relationships, consent and boundaries.
On her official site, Knox describes her writing as gritty YA with dark humour. Alongside writing, she also works in flower farming.
