Wendy Shearer biography

Wendy Shearer is a British author and professional storyteller known for her work in retelling traditional tales from the Caribbean, West Africa, and around the world. Drawing on her own Caribbean heritage, Shearer specialises in oral storytelling and has performed at schools, libraries, museums, and festivals across the UK.

Shearer’s published works include collections of folktales and myths aimed at children and young readers. Her book Caribbean Folktales: Stories from the Islands and the Windrush Generation was published by Scholastic in 2021. She is also the author of A Treasury of African and Caribbean Folktales, published by Puffin in 2021, which brings together a range of stories from African and Caribbean traditions.

In addition to her writing, Shearer has contributed to anthologies and educational resources, supporting the teaching of diverse stories in schools. She is a member of the Society for Storytelling and has worked with organisations such as The British Library and The British Museum to deliver storytelling sessions and workshops.
