Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Ulrich Hub is a German author, playwright, and director, known for his contributions to children’s literature. He studied acting and directing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. Hub has written numerous plays for children and adults, many of which have been staged in German-speaking countries.
His most widely recognised children’s book is An der Arche um acht (Meet at the Ark at Eight), first published in 2006 by Carlsen Verlag. The book has been translated into several languages, including English, and has received critical acclaim. Meet at the Ark at Eight won the Deutscher Kinderhörspielpreis (German Children’s Radio Play Award) in 2006 and the Deutscher Kindertheaterpreis (German Children’s Theatre Prize) in 2008.
Hub’s other works include Das letzte Schaf (The Last Sheep), published in 2018, and Füchse lügen nicht (Foxes Never Lie), published in 2020. His books often feature animal protagonists and explore themes through humour and dialogue.
Ulrich Hub’s works have been published by Carlsen Verlag and have been adapted for stage and radio. In 2008, he received the Kinderhörspielpreis der Stadt Karlsruhe for his radio play adaptation of An der Arche um acht. His books have been included in recommended reading lists for children in Germany.
In 2020, Füchse lügen nicht was nominated for the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis (German Youth Literature Prize).
