Tyus D. Williams biography

Tyus D. Williams is a wildlife ecologist and science communicator. He is a Ph.D. candidate in ecology at the University of California, Berkeley, and an NSF Graduate Research Fellow. His research focuses on carnivores—especially big cats—and how large mammalian predators interact with their ecosystems, including human-wildlife dynamics.

Williams tracks wildlife using methods such as camera traps and spatial analysis to study occupancy, movement patterns, and ecological changes driven by environmental disturbance. He has worked in field studies including tracking jaguars in Belize and surveying amphibians in the Appalachian Mountains.

He is the author of the children’s book Big Cats (A Day in the Life). His work extends into public outreach through social media and speaking, where he aims to make ecology accessible and inspire interest in conservation among young people.

His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, exploring topics such as intraguild competition, dominance hierarchies in carnivore communities, and societal engagement with scientific research.
