Tom Nicoll is a British children’s author known for his humorous fiction for younger readers. He is the creator of the There’s a Dragon in My… series, which began with There’s a Dragon in My Dinner!, published by Stripes Publishing in 2015. The series follows the adventures of a young boy named Eric and his miniature dragon, Pan, who arrives unexpectedly in a box of beansprouts. Subsequent titles in the series include There’s a Dragon in My Backpack!, There’s a Dragon in My Toilet!, and There’s a Dragon in My Popcorn!
Nicoll has also written the Level Up! series, which features video game-inspired adventures. The first book, Level Up: Block and Roll, was published by Stripes Publishing in 2018. The series centres on Flo and Max, two friends who find themselves inside a video game world, facing challenges and puzzles as they try to return home.
In addition to his series fiction, Tom Nicoll has written standalone titles such as Boyband of the Apocalypse, published by Stripes Publishing in 2017. This book follows the story of Sam, who discovers that the world’s most popular boyband is actually part of an alien invasion plot.
Tom Nicoll’s books are illustrated by various artists, including Sarah Horne, who provides illustrations for the There’s a Dragon in My… series. His work is aimed primarily at readers aged 6–9 and is noted for its accessible humour and engaging storylines.
In 2017, There’s a Dragon in My Dinner! was included in the BookTrust Great Books Guide, recognising its appeal to young readers.
