Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Tom Ellen is a British author known for his work in children’s and young adult fiction. He has co-authored several novels with Lucy Ivison, including Lobsters (2014), which was shortlisted for the YA Book Prize in 2015. Their subsequent collaborations include Never Evers (2016) and Freshers (2017), both published by Chicken House.
Ellen has also written solo works. His middle-grade novel The Cartoons That Came to Life was published by Chicken House in 2021. This was followed by The Cartoons That Saved the World in 2022. In 2023, he published Space Oddity, which was shortlisted for the 2022 Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in the Younger Readers category.
Tom Ellen’s books have been published in the UK by Chicken House and Usborne. His writing has received recognition for its humour and appeal to young readers. Lobsters was also longlisted for the Carnegie Medal. Ellen’s work continues to be published in the UK and internationally.
