Tim Marshall is a British author, journalist, and broadcaster known for his works on international affairs and geopolitics. He has reported from over 30 countries and has covered events such as the wars in Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Marshall worked for Sky News for over two decades, serving as their Foreign Affairs Editor, and has also contributed to the BBC and LBC.
Marshall is the author of several books that explore the influence of geography on global politics. His notable works include Prisoners of Geography (Elliott & Thompson, 2015), which examines how physical landscapes shape the fate of nations. The book has been widely used in schools and universities as a resource for understanding geopolitics. He has also written Divided: Why We’re Living in an Age of Walls (Elliott & Thompson, 2018), which investigates the reasons behind the construction of physical and metaphorical barriers around the world, and Worth Dying For: The Power and Politics of Flags (Elliott & Thompson, 2016), focusing on the symbolism and significance of national flags.
In addition to his adult non-fiction, Marshall has written Prisoners of Geography: Our World Explained in 12 Simple Maps (Elliott & Thompson, 2019), a young readers’ edition of his bestselling book, designed to introduce children to the concepts of geopolitics and global affairs.
Marshall’s work has been recognised for its accessible approach to complex international issues. In 2019, Prisoners of Geography: Our World Explained in 12 Simple Maps was published as a children’s edition, bringing his analysis to a younger audience.
