Tanya Landman biography

Tanya Landman is a British author known for her work in children’s and young adult fiction. She studied English Literature at university and later worked in theatre, including as a performer and scriptwriter for Storybox Theatre, a puppet theatre company.

Landman’s writing spans a range of genres, including historical fiction, mystery, and adventure. Her debut novel, Waking Merlin, was published in 2005. She is recognised for her meticulous research and for exploring themes such as identity, justice, and resilience in her books.

Among her notable works is Buffalo Soldier, which won the CILIP Carnegie Medal in 2015. The novel is set in post-Civil War America and follows the story of a young African American woman who disguises herself as a man to join the US Army. Landman’s other books include Apache, which was shortlisted for the 2008 Carnegie Medal, and the Poppy Fields Murder Mystery series, which blends humour with detective fiction for younger readers.

Her books are published by Walker Books. Landman continues to write for children and young adults, with her work recognised by several literary awards and nominations. In 2015, she received the CILIP Carnegie Medal for Buffalo Soldier.
