Susan Gal creates picture books and illustrations for children. She completed a BFA at Art Center College of Design and began her illustration career as a poster and calendar artist in Los Angeles. She later interned with Walt Disney Feature Animation and became a member of the original animation team at the Disney MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida. Her own picture books include Please Take Me for a Walk (2010), a story told by a dog eager to explore the neighbourhood; Into the Outdoors (2011), which follows a family on a camping trip while introducing positional language; and Day by Day (2012), a picture book about a family and community working, sharing and celebrating through the seasons.
Gal has also illustrated picture books by other writers. These include Here Is the World: A Year of Jewish Holidays (2014) by Lesléa Newman, Hocus Pocus, It’s Fall! (2016) and Abracadabra, It’s Spring! by Anne Sibley O’Brien, The Tower of Life: How Yaffa Eliach Rebuilt Her Town in Stories and Photographs (2022) by Chana Stiefel, and New Shoes for Leo (2025) by Lauren Agra Deedy. The Tower of Life received the Sydney Taylor Award and a Sibert Informational Book Honor.
