Simon Reeve (born 21 July 1972) is a British author and television presenter known for long-form BBC travel documentaries that combine geography with reportage on history, politics and the environment. He began his career in journalism in the 1990s, researching and writing about security and international affairs before moving into broadcast work.
Reeve’s first book, The New Jackals: Ramzi Yousef, Osama bin Laden and the Future of Terrorism (1998), examined emerging jihadist networks. He followed with One Day in September (1999), an account of the 1972 Munich Olympics attack.
From the mid-2000s he fronted global journey series for the BBC, including Equator (2006), Tropic of Capricorn (2008), Tropic of Cancer (2009), Indian Ocean with Simon Reeve (2012) and Australia with Simon Reeve (2013). Later projects include Sacred Rivers (2014), Caribbean with Simon Reeve (2015), Mediterranean with Simon Reeve (2018), The Americas with Simon Reeve (2019) and UK-focused specials such as Cornwall with Simon Reeve (2020). His programmes typically interleave landscape travel with on-the-ground interviews and case studies.
Reeve’s memoir, Step by Step: The Life in My Journeys (2019), reflects on his route into journalism and the making of the travel series. His work has been published and broadcast internationally and is widely used in schools to support discussions of global citizenship, sustainability and contemporary geography.
