Shawn Smucker writes fiction and non-fiction. His novel The Day the Angels Fell began The Day the Angels Fell series, and The Edge of Over There is the second primary work in that series. The Day the Angels Fell was published in 2014, and The Edge of Over There was published in 2018.

The Edge of Over There is a fantasy novel about Abra Miller, a sixteen-year-old who must find the Tree of Life in an otherworldly place between Earth and Heaven. The paperback edition was published by Revell with 384 pages and the ISBN 978-0-8007-2850-2.

His adult fiction includes These Nameless Things, a 336-page paperback published on 30 June 2020, and The Weight of Memory, a 354-page hardcover published on 6 July 2021. These Nameless Things centres on Dan, who has escaped captivity in a mountain and waits for his brother, while The Weight of Memory follows Paul Elias after a terminal diagnosis as he seeks a guardian for his granddaughter.
