Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Serena Holly is a pen name used on children’s books developed by Storymix. Under this name, titles include the illustrated chapter-book series The Marvellous Granny Jinks and Me, which follows Jada Jinks as she helps her grandmother pursue a long-held ambition to perform magic. The stories are illustrated by Selom Sunu and were published by Simon & Schuster Children’s UK in 2022.
For the Granny Jinks books, Storymix has credited the pen name in connection with work by Jasmine Richards and Sareeta Domingo. In 2025, Storymix Books also published the festive children’s novel The Other Father Christmas by Serena Holly, a project Storymix identifies as written under the pen name by Jasmine Richards and Priscilla Mante, with illustrations by Shahab Shamshirsaz (various editions).
Series entries include The Marvellous Granny Jinks and Me (chapter book) and The Marvellous Granny Jinks and Me: Animal Magic!. The stories reference real-world inspiration from Jenny Mayers, noted as the first Black woman admitted to The Magic Circle, and incorporate simple how-to tricks alongside the narrative.
