Sarah Ziman biography

Sarah Ziman writes children’s poetry. Her book Why Did My Brain Make Me Say It? is a poetry collection for children, published by Troika in 2024, with an interest age of 9 to 11 and a reading age of 7+. The collection includes poems about everyday life and language, with forms including haiku, acrostic, rhymes, riddles and shape poems.

Why Did My Brain Make Me Say It? was published in paperback on 6 September 2024 and has 80 pages. The poems are arranged loosely across a school year, from September through Halloween, Christmas, spring, summer holidays and the move towards a new school year before secondary school.

Why Did My Brain Make Me Say It? was included in recommendations for Key Stage 2 classrooms and homes. The book was also described for use as a model for children’s writing because it uses a wide variety of poetic forms, including haiku, shape poems, list poems, riddles, free verse and rhyming poems.

Sarah Ziman is available for school visits, including performance assemblies and collaborative class workshops. Why Did My Brain Make Me Say It? was longlisted for the 2026 UKLA Book Awards in the 7–11+ category.
