Sandi Toksvig is a writer, broadcaster, comedian and presenter whose work includes books for children and young adults, fiction, nonfiction, radio and television. She studied archaeology and anthropology at Girton College, Cambridge.
Her children’s and YA books include Tales from the Norse’s Mouth, first published in 1994, and Hitler’s Canary, first published in 2005. Hitler’s Canary draws on events in wartime Denmark and was adapted for the stage.
Toksvig has also written adult nonfiction and fiction, including Between the Stops: The View of My Life from the Top of the Number 12 Bus (2019) and Friends of Dorothy (2024).
Alongside her writing, Toksvig has had a long broadcasting career. She presented children’s television early in her career, later hosted Fifteen-to-One, succeeded Stephen Fry as host of QI in 2016, and co-presented The Great British Bake Off from 2017 to 2020.
In 2022, she received the National Book Foundation’s Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
