Samantha Shannon biography

Samantha Shannon was born in west London in 1991 and started writing at the age of fifteen. From 2010 to 2013, she studied English Language and Literature at St Anne’s College, Oxford. In 2013, she published The Bone Season, the opening novel in a planned seven-book fantasy series.

The Bone Season is set in 2059 and follows Paige Mahoney, a clairvoyant in a version of England ruled by Scion. The Mime Order is the second Bone Season novel and continues Paige Mahoney’s story after her escape from a secret prison city in Oxford. The Song Rising is the third novel in the series, and The Mask Falling is the fourth novel.

Shannon’s fantasy novel The Priory of the Orange Tree is part of The Roots of Chaos sequence and was published in paperback by Bloomsbury Publishing on 18 February 2020. A Day of Fallen Night returns to the same fictional universe and was published by Bloomsbury Publishing on 28 February 2023. The Dark Mirror, the fifth Bone Season novel, was published by Bloomsbury Publishing on 25 February 2025.
